Why can't I create PDF files in landscape orientation?

Question:

Why can't I create PDF files in landscape orientation?

Answer:

The paper settings within the Printer Properties can cause this issue, especially when a sheet size option other than Auto is used. (If Auto is used then the settings of the source application determine the PDF specifications, which avoids this issue).

Note that in new versions of the software, the default for this options is Auto if you would like to manage your print settings, please see this article.
