In September 2026, a vulnerability was identified in OpenSSL, as documented here in the National Vulnerability Database. The vulnerability affects OpenSSL only under specific conditions. These conditions do not apply to how OpenSSL is used in PDF-XChange Editor or any of our other products, including the SDKs.
PDF-XChange Editor uses an up-to-date version of OpenSSL (version 3.5.9 at the time of writing). However, an older version of OpenSSL is included in a third-party component: Microsoft's MIP SDK, which is used by the AzureRMS plugin. Based on our assessment, the affected functionality is not used by PDF-XChange products, and the vulnerability does not present a security risk in their supported configurations.
No action is required to protect against this vulnerability. Users who wish to take additional precautions can disable the AzureRMS plugin as follows:
Note that this plugin can also be excluded during a custom installation of PDF-XChange Editor, as detailed here.
