Question:

Why does PDF-XChange Editor/PDF-XChange Viewer prevent me from opening additional tabs?

Answer:

The most probable cause of this issue is that there is insufficient RAM available to enable the opening of additional tabs.

Resolution:

PDF-XChange Editor

Follow the steps below to increase the RAM available to PDF-XChange Editor:

1. Click Edit in the Menu Toolbar, then click Preferences:

 The Preferences dialog box will open.

2. Click Performance in the Categories menu, then increase the value in the Use System Memory dropdown menu - for example to 75%:

It will then be possible to open additional tabs.

PDF-XChange Viewer

Follow the steps below to increase the RAM available to PDF-XChange Viewer:

1. Click Edit in the Menu Toolbar, then click Preferences:

The Preferences dialog box will open.

2. Click the Performance category, then increase the value in the Use System Memory dropdown menu - for example to 75%:

 

It will then be possible to open additional tabs.

Additionally, please note that there is a limit of fifty open tabs in PDF-XChange Viewer, which may also be the cause of the issue. This can be resolved as follows:

1. Click Edit in the Menu Toolbar, then click Preferences:

The Preferences dialog box will open.

2. Select the Allow Multiple Instances box in the Application tab:

3. Click Apply and then click OK. Please note that it is necessary to close PDF-XChange Viewer for adjusted settings to take effect.

Changing this setting will enable multiple instances of PDF-XChange Viewer to run at the same time. This means that once the maximum of fifty open tabs in a single instance of PDF-XChange Viewer is reached, it is possible to open a second instance of the application and use it to open an additional fifty tabs. Use Windows Explorer to open additional instances of PDF-XChange Viewer as required.
